Route 1: We take responsibility for the environmental impact of our operations
Our goal is to limit the direct effects of our operations on the environment,
namely through savvy water consumption, clever energy use and intelligent
waste management.

#ENERGY
By 2030 we aim to reduce our consumption by 20% vs. 2021, our baseline year.
How? By implementing new ways of working to enhance energy management and make energy saving a priority in everything we do; and by improving our processes and exploring innovative technologies.
Where do we stand: in 2024 we consumed 664 GWh, down 198 GWh from 2021.

#WATER
We worked together with external experts to understand the challenges and set targets.
As a Group, we commit to:
- source water responsibly and put water stewardship at the top of each site's agenda
- reduce our consumption of groundwater and municipal water by 20%
- reduce our consumption of surface water and return it to nature, at least as clean as it was before.
Where do we stand: in 2024 we consumed 1,7 million m³ of water, up 0,2 million m³ from 2022.

#WASTE
On our sites effective waste management means prevention, reuse or recycle, and valorization outside our gates. We’ve embraced this challenge as part of Route 2030 and are on a mission to Zero Waste.
By 2030, our ambition is to become 100% ‘landfill-free’ and ‘incineration-free’ for
manufacturing waste. That means that we’ll fully valorize the output of our operations, either to be used in our own operations again, or by another party.
Where do we stand: in 2024 67% of waste valorised, up 8% from 2022.

Our Sustainability Stories

Everyone is a reshaper
At B.I.G., the imperative of a sustainable future is emphasized, with the belief that it must be collectively shaped by all employees. This involves reshaping processes, behaviors, and societal norms, aiming for less energy, water, and waste consumption while ensuring safety and ethical sourcing. And we believe everyone at B.I.G. can contribute! Everyone is a reshaper!
“We used to pump 20 million liters of water every year. Today that is already 25% less.”
Seppe Van Loo,
Process Engineering Specialist, Beaulieu Needle Felt

“The use of renewable energy sources benefits B.I.G. because it makes us less dependent on the energy market.”

World Cleanup Day
Many of our sites were all about World Cleanup Day! As part of our Route2030 goals, we’re already working on managing our waste streams worldwide, but what better place to start than right on our own doorstep?
Colleagues from Beaulieu sites across the globe rolled up their sleeves - from Belgium to France and the US! Many of our sites made a real impact by cleaning up our plants, neighborhoods, and surrounding areas. Together, we collected over 1 ton of waste, which has now been properly disposed and recycled.
Let’s keep shaping sustainable living, together
